2003 Vintage - Medoc - Bordeaux
Vintage 2003 in the Medoc, the left-bank region of Bordeaux had the hottest summer on record. Cabernet Sauvignon was the grape that performed the best in the heat and the wines from the northern Medoc were excellent.
The summer heat made the usual problem in Bordeaux of achieving maximum ripeness of the fruit an easy task in 2003. The wines have an almost 'jammy' quality that is associated with warm harvests. Unfortunately, the excellent quality achieved by some of the Chateaux was not achieved by all. The quality of the vintage is a bit spotty with the properties using the highest degree of Cabernet Sauvignon in their blend usually getting the best results.
